Day 3 of 30 An Apple a Day
Even though there are no signs of Fall around here, September still makes me think of apples. I’ve been eating some nice Gala ones recently. Can’t tell you what variety this one is!
And I finally finished yesterday’s painting. Color makes me happy!
Welcome to Music Class
I must confess that even though I didn’t teach music for several years, I was still collecting music themed fabric. Most of the time I didn’t know what I would ever do with it. But this was a no brainer. You know this HAD to go into a quilt.
I just love this print and was so pleased to finally use it.
The kids will need a special quilt to great them the 1st day of school.
The final quilt, that will fit nicely on my classroom door, will greet students through the end of Sept. The red apple fabric for the border was a must. These seasonal quilts are very fun!
America the Beautiful
Every classroom needs a map. I purchased the center panel years ago. I added strips of fabric for the border and quilted it. It will be a great addition to my music room.
I’m not sure who designed this, but they obviously didn’t use spell check.
It will be fun for my students to identify the spelling mistakes. Nevertheless, I love the kitchy vibe of this print. Though it has that 50’s look, It was printed by Moda fabrics just about 10 years ago.
I’m trying to use up my vast stash of fabric, so I put another panel with similar colors on the back.
A Cup of Flowers
I recently sold a number of paintings in my Etsy shop. Yay! So I need to paint some more. This little teacup is just brimming with happy flowers.

Charity Quilts
This week I finished a couple of charity quilts. These two were for the Quilts of Valor organization.
The first one, in red, white and blue, I quilted with an over all pattern I call Loopy Stars. It seemed appropriate.
The second was a little more whimsical in color and fabric choices so I used my Spirals pattern.
.Both of theses quilts were string pieced and used a variety of fabrics. It looks like a great way to use up scraps.
Unfortunately, I don’t know who pieced them, or I would give credit. I sent them off. The next person will bind them and then they will go to their recipients. It’s a wonderful collaboration and I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to do my part.
Flag Day Memories
Whenever I think of Flag Day, I think of my Grandmother Griffiths. June 14th was her birthday. This year, I realized that she would have been 125! She was already 70 when I was born, but luckily, she lived until 90 so I had a chance to know her well. I love flags and the combination of red, white and blue. It just says Summer.
Red Roses and Purple Flowers
I just had to paint something today–it’s been so long. I’ve been chained to my long arm for weeks it seems. But I’m leaving on a trip today and am taking my paints. No sewing! That really surprises my Mom. Usually when I go to visit her, I bring all sorts of piecing projects I want to finish. I think she feels neglected. I promised this would be a no sewing trip. I hope she doesn’t mind if I paint all day.
