Day 5: Red House on a Hill

Not a very original title, I know.  I wish I had more time to do something wonderful.  This one has some flaws, and I’m not too excited about it, but at least I am keeping up with the challenge!  Only 25 days to go.   Blue sky courtesy of Picmonkey.

Smile and a Mishap

Wish I could redo the painting on this one.  I painted the letters blue, and then I wished I had left them white.  I had the “bright” idea that I could lighten them up with “Whiteout”–which happened to be handy.  BAD idea!  I used my watercolor brush and quickly found out that the “Whiteout” is oil based and sticks like glue!  I tried to wash the brush, but the white just got all over my fingers and won’t come off.  I guess I need turpentine.  And the brush is now in the garbage.  And now you know–Whiteout is NOT like watercolor!  And it didn’t even cover up the blue.

So even though this was a disaster, I learned from it and I still like my drawing–just don’t like how the painting came out.  Shows what an amateur I am!   I tried to spruce it up a bit with a border done in Picmonkey.  Hope you will “SMILE” anyway.

America the Beautiful

Every classroom needs a map.  I purchased the center panel years ago.  I added strips of fabric for the border and quilted it.  It will be a great addition to my music room. IMG_1197

I’m not sure who designed this, but they obviously didn’t use spell check.IMG_1198

It will be fun for my students to identify the spelling mistakes.IMG_1199 Nevertheless, I love the kitchy vibe of this print.  Though it has that 50’s look, It was printed by Moda fabrics just about 10 years ago. IMG_1201 IMG_1202

I’m trying to use up my vast stash of fabric, so I put another panel with similar colors on the back.IMG_1203

A Cup of Flowers

I recently sold a number of paintings in my Etsy shop.  Yay!  So I need to paint some more.  This little teacup is just brimming with happy flowers.

Egg Tree

Did you know that Easter eggs grow on trees?  Well, the Easter bunny does!  How else to do you think he manages to fill all those baskets?
